Pikey Peak Trek

6 Days

Overview

Pikey Peak (4,069m) in the Solu-Khumbu region offers one of the finest 360-degree sunrise panoramas in Nepal, taking in Everest, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Cho Oyu, and Ama Dablam from a single summit — a viewpoint Tenzing Norgay Sherpa reportedly rated among the best in the entire Khumbu range. Unlike the busy main trails toward Everest Base Camp, Pikey Peak stays quiet throughout, offering the same Sherpa hospitality and mountain scenery without the crowds. The trek begins with a short flight or drive to Phaplu, then follows a gentle trail through pine and rhododendron forest to Junbesi, one of the most complete traditional Sherpa villages in the Solu region, home to the Thubten Choling monastery. From Junbesi the trail climbs steadily toward Pikey Base Camp, setting up for a pre-dawn summit push to catch the sunrise from the top. The descent runs through the quieter Hinku Valley, passing Rai and Sherpa villages on the way back to Phaplu.
